Arrest and Seizure at Local Hotel Parking Lot
In a coordinated effort by the Angeles City Police Drug Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Units, two individuals—a 30-year-old Chinese national named Zhe Huang and a 19-year-old Filipina, Leslie Sumabal—were apprehended on Wednesday, April 24. The operation took place at the parking lot of ABC Hotel located on Don Juico Avenue, Barangay Malabanias, Angeles City. Both suspects are currently being held at Police Station 4, facing charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Extensive Array of Drugs Confiscated
The law enforcement’s successful buy-bust operation led to the confiscation of illegal drugs valued at approximately P4.8 million. The haul included a diverse collection of narcotics, such as 2 kilograms of blue ecstasy pills, 12 packages of orange ecstasy pills, and 26 packages of chewable ecstasy in orange and yellow. Additionally, authorities seized 35 grams each of salt and crystal form Ketamine, 87 grams of shabu (methamphetamine), a box of liquid marijuana, and a .22 caliber pistol equipped with eight live rounds. All seized items were transported to the police station for further processing and evidence handling.
This significant drug bust underscores the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to combat the proliferation of illegal narcotics in the region, reflecting their commitment to uphold public safety and enforce drug laws rigorously.
Colonel Amado Mendoza, the chief of the city police, explained that the successful buy-bust operation was the result of an extensive investigative effort. According to Mendoza, the suspects, Zhe Huang and Leslie Sumabal, collaborated closely to facilitate transactions with other local individuals. This partnership was pivotal in establishing the case against them, leading to their eventual arrest. The detailed case build-up by the police underscores their commitment to dismantling drug networks within the community.
Colonel Amado Mendoza, the city police chief, revealed during a Thursday press conference that a detailed investigation led to a significant operation in Barangay Balibago. This operation resulted in the arrest of suspects and the seizure of a substantial quantity of party drugs. Mendoza emphasized, “The confiscation of these party drugs marks a significant triumph in our relentless fight against illegal drugs within the city.”
Angeles Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. commended the effectiveness of the operation, underlining its importance as a reflection of the city’s dedication to maintaining public safety and striving for a drug-free community. The mayor highlighted ongoing preventive measures, including the mandate for surprise drug tests for city hall employees, public officials, and public transport drivers. Those testing positive for drug use are referred to rehabilitation programs, reinforcing the city’s commitment to comprehensive community health and safety measures.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated his priority to achieve a drug-free Angeles City. He noted that the initiative includes mandatory drug testing for city hall workers, newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials, and public transport drivers. “By ensuring rigorous enforcement and continuous anti-drug campaigns, we aim to significantly reduce, if not completely eliminate, the demand for illegal drugs in our city,” Lazatin stated. This proactive stance by the city government involves all 33 village chiefs, 231 barangay kagawads, 33 SK chairpersons, and 231 SK kagawads, showcasing a unified effort towards eradicating drug-related issues.
